WHAT INSPIRED THE CHOICE OF MATERIALS AND COLOURS?
In the 1940s-60s, designers and architects employed disparate materials from traditional wood, stone, and metal to plastic, glass, and ceramics in unconventional ways; these raw and textured materials informed the warm and classic palette for AW24, rich in chromatic, earthy tones – tan, ebony, cashew beige, ice grey, dusty pink – contrasted by sharp black, white and metallics.
CAN YOU SHARE A BEHIND-THE-SCENES MOMENT FROM THE DESIGN PROCESS THAT MADE THIS COLLECTION EXTRA SPECIAL?
We were walking to dinner one night in Milan and we stumbled upon the famous Gio Ponti church (it’s called San Francesco d’Assisi al Fopponino and if you’re ever in the city it’s worth a visit!). The lighting at night was very suggestive, with its diamond-like windows, and the next day we rushed to try and infuse these shapes into the collection. And it’s how the Uma with gold mirror “windows” was born.
WHICH ARE YOUR FAVOURITE STYLES FROM THE COLLECTION?
The standouts of the season are definitely the Mona, with its architectural sparkly crest inspired by our logo; the Andrea, with its feather pompom inspired by the fantastical couture creations of Roberto Capucci; the Jazz, a great evening piece featuring precise rows of gold crystals on rich black satin; and last but not least, the Spencer, inspired by a classic satin ballet flat, featuring a crossover velvet strap that mimics the diamond pattern of the Gio Ponti D.555.1 coffee table.
…AND WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO WEAR THEM?
When we design our shoes, we always want to achieve a design that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Even the dressier pieces, like the Andrea or the Jazz, can be worn with an evening gown for a very special occasion, or with a pair of jeans or cargo pants and a tank top for more casual attire, when you want to feel more special, dressing from the feet up.
