We asked our Founder and Chief Brand Director, Mary Alice Malone, to share her thoughts on the subject…
What does confidence mean to you?
I believe that true confidence comes from getting comfortable in your own skin – accepting and embracing every part of who you are… For most of us this is a work in progress and not a linear journey.
Why is International Women’s Day so important?
International Women’s Day is crucial because, around the world, there are still so many women who are fighting to have their voices heard. I believe that our collective femininity is one of the most powerful forces on earth. International Women’s Day serves as a reminder to celebrate and harness the innate beauty and power that lies within all of us.
How can we empower ourselves through what we wear?
Fashion is an immediate form of self-expression – it allows us to feel a certain way. In fact, it lets us create any persona we like. It can feel amazing to put on a sharply tailored suit, for instance… and a pair of high heels can instantly make you feel like a different person. Choosing how we wish to present ourselves to the world, through the way we dress, is incredibly empowering.
Which Malone Souliers style would you turn to for a confidence boost?
All our shoes are designed to instil a sense of confidence in the wearer so really it depends on the occasion. The Maureen mule – in one of its many seasonal iterations – is an always-reliable choice for me, though.
